cleanup
Hey all...Just wondering if the WCBA still cleans up the garbage at some of the local bodies of water?I think I recal seeing pictures of a cleanup at Albert Dyck some time back.I was walking the shoreline at Albert Dyck yesterday, and it is in need of a clean up.I'm thinking of going down there with a couple garbage bags and filling them up.

Re: cleanup
I wish I could be there to help out. My very first meeting with the members of the WCBA back in 1999 was at an Albert Dyck lake cleanup. We had something crazy like 8 garbage bags full plus some big stuff that won't even fit in bags.
This is just a recommendation, but you could make it a clean-up, derby combo. Start in the morning with the clean up, and for every garbage bag filled and every item too big to even fit in a garbage bag collected, the person gets one bonus pound to go towards the weight of their biggest 5 bass caught with the rest of the day. Minimum one bag filled to qualify.
Just a thought...

Re: cleanup
there was an issue with the water ski club on the lake so we no longer clean the lake it seems it was good for us to clean the lake but as soon as we wanted to hold a tourney there they wouldnt let us
Re: cleanup
Well that sucks....it truely should be the people that claim the lake cleaning it up...but it seems like they have higher priorities. It must look real good on them when they have international visitors for competitions.I'd still like to go clean some up just for the fish's sake.

If it's a public park that the ski bums lease, maybe a few phone calls from concerned citizens to the city might put the pressure on them?

Re: cleanup
Then maybe ask the local newspaper why there's a city council member on the ski club, but the place looks like a pig pen?

Re: cleanup
actually justin it used to be the wcbas job we adopted the lake which i think is a great idea to do gives us a good name out there
Re: cleanup
As a club, it would make no sense to get completely involved in a cleanup effort if we werent able to use it. It would be alot like being a "fluffer". We take care of it for someone else to use........ makes no sense.

Re: cleanup
that is why we longer do the clean up at albert dycke if we could find an area like katzie or even mill or fish trap that would be worth it

Re: cleanup
I'd really like to start this again just have a hard time getting members to show up and commit
Re: cleanup
What I have seen work in the past at other clean-ups has been to advertise and get the public and other clubs (different sport clubs as well) involved not just the one club. and try to get door prizes from buisnesses.
