Campbell river report Empty Campbell river report

This is a couple weeks old but on here that counts as new !! Shocked Very Happy

Just got back from 5 days in Campbell River. Fishing for coho was good, not great, but good. Wife got into 10 coho's in apprx. 2 1/2 hrs one afternoon, but that was the exception rather than the rule.
Water conditions were good on the Quinsam and Campbell. It was "busy" but Van Isle busy, not Vedder/Chehalis busy, with fishermen.
Coho's were a little larger than in previous years, averaging 7- 9 lbs rather than pre 2013 5 to 7 lb average.
Surprisingly saw no jacks caught. The Quinsam/ Campbell, in years past, was known for it's huge run of jacks.

Talked to a couple people who'd fished the Puntledge and water levels were high, with lots of debris/leaves in the river. Weather could be an issue, with torrential rain in some areas and just showers in others, so it pays to be ready to move to another system that hasn't been affected by the rain. ( Black creek, Oyster, etc. )

Used a couple of bass rods (St. Croix Avid and Redington) and reels (BPS Extreme), to toss spinners/spoons with good success. A 6'6" or 7' rod is really nice on smaller rivers and could handle the Campbell in a pinch.

Stopped in at the new Cabela's in Nanaimo, and long story short, it's worth a visit. More on it later.
